By the way, where are we going to sleep tonight in Campeervan ? A guide for wild camping
Which are the best places to sleep with a combi? First, it depends on the season and on the region you are in. If you are on the coast of Andalusia or Portugal during the summer, chances are high that the car park next to the beaches will be completely full or forbidden to camping-cars. In this case, don’t worry. You have two possibilities: find a wild place next to the sea or in the country for the night, or wait late in the afternoon to park next to the beach. Knowing that it is more comfortable to find a place to park before sunset. And more pleasant to wake up in the morning in a wild place than in a car park full of people starting from 9am.
Observing your environment and the map, you should be able to find the place that is most suitable for you to sleep. Further away from the village so not to be disturbed in the morning, next to a less frequented beach, a small river, close to the beginning of a hiking trail, in a wooded area etc. You will maybe hesitate the first days on the best place to sleep. But you will feel little by little the pleasure to find the spot, the magical place where you can wake up, marvelled by the life of the place (in our case, some eagles just above our heads during breakfast, the flowers by the lane, the stream, the bells of the sheeps only a few meters from the van, in my opinion waking up in the morning is the best moment of the trip in combi).
In any cases, your best allies for this trip are: your topography map and your curiosity on the road and out of it, next to the local people. Wherever you are, you will always find a native delighted and pleased to reveal you which is the most charming place to pass the night ;-).
