Roadtrip in Campervan or MotorHome : Map or GPS?
Above all, it depends on your year of birth and your habits…
However, if you are thinking about driving a lot, and discovering new places, on the coast, in the mountain, in the countryside, the GPS may interrupt because of the lack of signal. In this case the map results useful.
In general, it makes it possible not to go simply from a point A to a point B, but to really travel, thanks to what can be interpreted from the topography. That’s why we suggest you invest in a good old IGN map of the region that you are going to cross (between 3 and 5 euros). The scale should be small enough so that you can distinguish the localities, small streets, rivers etc. You will easily find one of these regional maps in a petrol station.
Then, you only have to decrypt it. This tool proves to be very useful for organizing your trip. The map will tell you if there is water near, if the road is on a lower level, if you are going to cross a nature reserve, if the region you are going to cross is either wild or has lots of roads etc.
You will see in the end you can’t live without it…
