Pop-up roof
If your van is fitted with a pop-up roof (VW California, Mercedes Marco Polo, CAMPEO van), it’s important to open the vehicle doors when you open and close the roof, otherwise you risk damaging it. Watch the TUTO video carefully, depending on your van model. Roof damage is not covered by insurance, and can cost up to €15,000. Before setting off, be sure to walk around the van and check that the roof is closed. NEVER DRIVE WITH THE TOP DOWN!
Secondary battery operation (electricity)
The van has two batteries, one for the engine and the other to power the living area (fridge, lights, heating in the rear of the vehicle). These two batteries are independent, so you won’t run the risk of running out of batteries when you want to start the van. The living area’s battery is recharged when you’re on the road, or by connecting to a 220V socket (at a campsite) via the socket on the outside of the van. Our vans are also equipped with solar panels to charge the battery. If you are staying at a campsite, we recommend that you connect to the campsite immediately.
Save your secondary battery
At night, turn down the fridge to save battery power. If you turn on the heating at night or turn on the hot water, remember to turn them off.
Avoid water shortages
Remember to turn off the sink and shower faucets. If these are not closed properly, you risk damaging the water pump and ending up with no water. In our vans (SUNLIGHT and CAMPEO) you’ll find a spare water pump in the glove compartment. Video explaining how to change the water pump via QR code – Video Tutorial – Changing the water pump.Don’t wait until the water tank is empty, fill it up when the tank is 1/4 full.Grey/clear water management
To drain wastewater (grey) and fill clear water (and clean the toilet cassette), use camping sites, motorhome gas stations and motorhome parks with appropriate facilities. To do so, visit the Park4night mobile application
Stationary heating (overnight) & hot water
The heating and hot water system operates as follows for :–VW California, Mercedes Marco Polo, Sunlight van operate using the secondary battery and diesel, so it’s important to have the secondary battery charged and more than 1/4 diesel in the vehicle’s tank.–Burstner Campeo runs on gasONLY FOR FOURGONS ( SUNLIGHT AND CAMPEO): When you turn on the heating and/or hot water, it’s important to close the window next to the dining table, see video.Where to sleep
Remember to find a place to sleep before nightfall. Download the Park4Night application which will enable you to find campsites, motorhome areas, gas stations for motorhomes to drain and fill up with water, etc… Our recommendation is to find a place to sleep before nightfall. Don’t park on the beach, or you’ll get silted up and submerged by the tide.
Insurance / Accident
Your van comes with ALL RISK insurance with deductible. The deductible and your cover depend on the insurance package you have taken out; by default, your van comes with BASIC insurance (

Outdoor steps
If your van has an electric step for getting in and out, remember to close it before you set off. If this is open when you start the van, an alarm will sound.
Parking / Van height
If you enter a parking lot, pay attention to the height of the vehicle. Our VW California models are 2m high, our vans 2.65m.
External blinds
